Late Drop

If approved, a late drop will result in a full refund of tuition fees and the complete removal of the course from the student's academic record. Because there is a refund of tuition involved, a late drop requires the student to be involved in a truly extraordinary situation. A common reason to pursue a late drop is if there was a death of an immediate family member. A late drop must be filed within six (6) months of the end of the semester involved. A late drop is usually for all classes. Talk to your professor before pursuing a late drop petition. Your professor should be informed of your intent to change the registration status of your class(es).

Procedure

  • Undergraduate students who wish to file petitions should go to Academic Services in Millican Hall 210. Graduate students should go to Office of Graduate Studies in Millican Hall 230.

  • Talk to/email/call an advisor in Academic Services to discuss how to file a petition and as to whether or not it is an appropriate request, and how to pick up the petition form.

  • Read the attached definitions on the petition form explaining administrative record changes.

  • Obtain a copy of your registration schedule from the Registrar's Office -- NOT a fee invoice.

  • If you have any type of financial assistance from the Office of Financial Assistance, you must have them sign off on the petition form before you turn it in.

  • If you are an international student with F1/J1 visa, you must have the Office of International Student and Scholar Services sign off on the petition form before you turn it in.

  • You must write a statement of explanation to attach to the petition form. The statement must explain why you are requesting a late drop. If you are only late dropping out of part of your classes, you will need to explain why you are only dropping out of select classes and why you are able to complete other classes. Include dates, details, and any documentation that supports your explanation.

  • All copies of the petition forms must be legible and with complete information. Any documentation not in the English language must be translated by proper authority before submitting with the petition forms.

  • Return the completed petition to Academic Services, Millican Hall 210.

  • Your Late Drop request will take approximately two to four weeks to review.

If you have read and understood these rules and procedures and wish to continue with this process, email Academic Services or come into our office in Millican Hall 210 and inform us of your desire to continue with the petition process.
